hi all,
i am pretty new to doing meditation and would also call myself 'spiritually weak'. but i'm working on it! anyway in a recent post johnasmodeus said the following "sat down on my bed to meditate, going through all the usual protocols (declaring that i open myself only to the one infinite creator, asking and giving permission for the "mantle of christ" to be placed around me for protection, etc.).". i understand the idea of negative entities entering our consciousness but currently when i go to meditate i just relax and try to clear my mind. i don't think any positive affirmations or things such as johnasmodeus had mentioned above.
i'm curious as to others thoughts on this. am i possibly leaving an open door here for some nasties to get in my mind? does anyone have any suggestions or general thoughts or specific statements such as johnasmodeus uses that they would suggest i should incorporate at the beginning of my meditation process?
thanks much,
john

edgar cayce gave this one.
unity prayer of protection:
"the light of god surrounds me, the love of god enfolds me, the power of god protects me, the presence of god watches over me. wherever i am, god is, and all is well"
the lords prayer also is a good one...
deeper realms of consciousness:
"as i approach the throne of grace, beauty, and might, i wrap about myself the protection found in the thought of the christ"

personally, i always use "i encircle myself with the love and the light of the one infinite creator" when meditating. but you should definitely just go with whatever feels right and works for you, morawaj. :d

morawaj, i don't think you have anything to worry about if you don't feel the need to ask for some guarding shining light. if you can meditate peacefully, and feel the love in the moment, you're definitely benefiting from the experience in grand ways. i meditate like that sometimes too, and it usually ends up being a great experience of cleansing, and grounding...for me at least. i don't think you should concern yourself with asking for higher light unless you feel the need to, whether it be because one day something happened and you have some new doubt/fear in the back of your mind, or if your surroundings are not so peachy. either way, from my own limited experience, meditating with a peaceful vibe is enough to bring in the healing powers of light. godspeed!

this is sort of a twisted answer and probably not the clear yes or no that you were looking for, but the bottom line is that it was not as necessary for you to do this until you read that sentence, because it did not even occur to you that this lower energy might intrude into your consciousness. now that you are made aware of this possibility, the likelihood of it occurring dramatically increases, so now it becomes more necessary to invoke protection.
this all falls in line with a kind of unwritten rule that the farther along you travel on the path of light and service the more responsibility you take on. it's not always easy, (if it were, everyone would be on this path ;)) but it's immensely rewarding, even more rewarding than you can ever imagine, until it's all said and done and you are reviewing your life from the other side of the veil.

you will know it if a "nasty" is ever approaching while you are meditating. it is the same vibe as when you are in the room with one or more upset people. if that ever happens this works well.
"angelic forces, remove all earthbound spirits and disincarnate entities that are affecting me at this time"
or a more proactive approach
"angelic forces, watch over me as i meditate and if any negative earthbound spirit or entity attempts to approach me take it to where it is supposed to be."

morawaj, thanks for the mention!
here's my take on it, and keep in mind that when it comes to meditation, i'm more influenced by the cayce material than ra:
the biggest thing to watch out for is purposely opening yourself to outside entities. now, in my meditation i choose specifically to open myself, but in order to clearly set some boundaries as to whom i'm granting access, i state it explicitly. if i don't, i'm leaving the back door open, so to speak, and pretty much anybody can walk in, pretend to be god, and cause quite a lot of trouble if they choose to.
the second thing to watch out for is your own level of consciousness during the meditation. even if you declare your limits, if you are vibrating at low frequencies that match low entities, they may be able to sneak in. so lay aside any sexual or fearful thoughts and make sure that they aren't allowed to intrude during your practice. accepting them as useful but then reaffirming to yourself that you don't want to "play" right now and that you will come back to them later is usually enough to get them to clear out for me.
other than that, visualize white light around you and you should be good!
good luck!
