the breathing of the earth
with vladislav lugovenko
by carol hiltner
this article represents the first presentation to the english-speaking world of lugovenko's important work.
—ed.
if, as mystical tradition tells us, the earth is a living system, how might she be doing that most fundamental process of life known as breathing? might evidence for the earth's breathing not be winessed as oscillations in the flow of subtle energies through and between the earth and the cosmos?
this was the thinking of russian astrophysicist vladisvlav lugoveko. and in the course of a lifetime of research, he has devised experiments that detect and measure just such an oscillation in this flow. moreover, his experiments have been replicated.
during the past decade, lugovenko's experimental data has revealed not only that the earth breathes — with striking similarities to the breathing patterns of human beings — but that her breathing is dynamically affected not only by events in the cosmos but also by human thought.
what is this "breathing" of the earth?
first of all, lugovenko has found, there is a daily rhythm. the breathing is quiet at night. then, as the earth spins toward the sunrise, the particular pattern and amplitude of that day moves like a wave around the earth, varying gradually according to other influences like sun spots, meteorological disturbances, earthquakes, and human activity.
there are seasonal fluctuations. for example, the earth's breathing is quieter in the winter. and there appear to be longer breathing cycles — periods of years — that seem to be affected by celestial bodies such as comets.

computer simulations strongly support new theory of earth's core
swedish researchers present in today’s web edition of the journal science evidence that their theory about the core of the earth is correct. among other applications, the findings may be of significance for our understanding of the cooling down of the earth, and of the stability of the earth’s magnetic field.
it has long been known that the inner core of the earth, a sphere consisting of a solid mass with a radius of about 1,200 km, is mainly made up of iron. however, seismic observations have shown that elastic waves pass more rapidly through this core in directions that are parallel to the earth’s axis of rotation than in directions parallel to the equator*-a phenomenon that has not been previously explained. at the high temperatures that prevail in the core of the earth, these waves should pass at the same speed regardless of their direction.
in the present study, scientists from uppsala university and kth present an explanation for this puzzling characteristic. the publication is part of a series of articles published by the same research team in nature and science. initially, in 2003, they published strong theoretical proof that the earth’s core assumes the so-called body-centered cubic crystal structure at high temperatures*-a structure that despite its high degree of symmetry evinces a surprisingly high level of elastic anisotropy, that is, its elastic properties are contingent on direction. this theory about the crystal structure directly contradicted the then prevailing view, but since then the theory has found both experimental and theoretical support.
in this new study the researchers present simulations of how seismic waves are reproduced in iron under the conditions that prevail in the core of the earth, showing a difference of about 12 percent depending on their direction-*which suffices as an explanation for the puzzling observations. first the trajectories of movement were calculated for several million atoms in strong interaction with each other. on this basis, the scientists were then able to determine that the progress of the sound waves was actually accurately described in the computer-generated model for iron under the conditions prevailing in the core of the earth.

i'm not sure if you've been paying attention to the recent news about all the undersea internet cables being cut.
http://news.google.com/news?q=undersea+internet+cables
there is a lot of conflicting information out there about the cause of this. but one thought i had is that maybe the earth is currently undergoing a period of expansion, and that these cables are being pulled taunt and apart. i read one article where the boat anchor snagged the cable because it was off of the sea floor for some reason.
i can't prove this idea. others could if they could re-measure the distance from shore to shore in the persian gulf.
regardless though, something very interesting is going on.

what a (in)credible, easy to see presentation!
talk about compelling evidence..what are the implications of global expansion? and evidence on other bodies in the solar system as well?
obviously, this expansion is occurring from within the planetary bodies. where is this mass coming from? where in current mainstream models is this hinted at? nowhere. the answer can be found on this very website, and i'll give you a clue...check out david's 'convergence' series of online books, there are three of them.
these are the most (r)evolutionary works of contemporary science ever brought under one virtual roof.
if your enquiring mind happens to appreciate the implications of what you see in the presentation offered in the previous link, please endeavor to read these works. really, how do millions of cubic miles of mass get inside a planet from without?
as in galileo's day with regard to the issue of the earth not being at the center of the universe, certain principalities of power don't want you to know.
but you can know. the answer is linked to proof that the entire universe is one living unified field of consciousness, with you playing an indispensible part that the universe cannot do without.
read carefully!:d

the rise of animo acids and ultimately bacteria and other single celled organisms (ultimately plants of course) that converted the early atmosphere to oxygen, nitrogen and co2 which are all the results of biological process. the other gases are either produced biologically or anthropogenic (produced through human activities) as well as photochemical generation. this is why when looking at other worlds the space probes looks for tell-tale signs of these gases as well as of certain amino acids.
the production of oxygen and hydrogen (biological, anthropogenic, photochemical) is what lead to water wapor. ultimately since there is enough gravity (and maybe hyperdimensional physics factors), these heavy gases are trapped in the atmosphere and is not released into space. this is why they come back down as rain. since life would continue to produce these atmopsheric gases, they accumulate as water basins or ultimately oceans. the reason why it is salty it can be traced to the 'weathering' effects on the rocks which have dissolved salts on them (the carbon cycle)
all of this process you read in sir james lovelock's giai hypothesis books. gaia hypothesis is a new way of looking at planetary process as 'planetary biological processes' instead of just geologic and earth science.

earth gives off a relentless hum of countless notes completely imperceptible to the human ear, like a giant, exceptionally quiet symphony, but the origin of this sound remains a mystery.
now unexpected powerful tunes have been discovered in this hum. these new findings could shed light on the source of this enigma.
the planet emanates a constant rumble far below the limits of human hearing, even when the ground isn't shaking from an earthquake. (it does not cause the ringing in the ear linked with tinnitus.) this sound, first discovered a decade ago, is one that only scientific instruments — seismometers — can detect. researchers call it earth's hum.
investigators suspect this murmur could originate from the churning ocean, or perhaps the roiling atmosphere. to find out more, scientists analyzed readings from an exceptionally quiet earth-listening research station at the black forest observatory in germany, with supporting data from japan and china.

earth hums while making 'love' waves
a subtle and mysterious global hum has been detected by seismologists studying records from earth's most boring seismic stations.
the newfound vibration is made of two-minute to five-minute, side-to-side surface seismic waves, called love waves.
they are named after the uk mathematician professor augustus edward hough love, who created the mathematical model of such waves in 1911.
the discovery comes 10 years after seismologists first identified louder global oscillations that resemble the ringing of a gigantic bell.
all of the planet's natural oscillations have signatures, or modes of vibration, depending on where and how they are created by earthquakes, ocean waves or other forces.
among the suspects for making the love wave hum are winds, ocean waves or even the sun.
the love wave is a mode that essentially torques the earth's north and south hemispheres against each other.
it's as if the planet is dancing the twist, says dr rudolf widmer-schnidrig of the black forest observatory in wolfach, germany, and the institute of geophysics at the university of stuttgart.
this gentle, faint twisting is called the toroidal mode.
"standing on the surface of the earth, you would only experience a horizontal motion left-right-left," if you were sensitive enough to feel it, widmer-schnidrig says.
"to picture this you imagine holding a metal or maybe rubber rod in your hands. now twist the two ends of the rod in opposite sense and let go.
"the two halves of the rod will perform small oscillatory twisting motions in opposite directions. that's what the two hemispheres of the earth would also do."
widmer-schnidrig and dieter kurrle report their discovery in the journal geophysical research letters.
there are no coincidences, no accidents...

seven is cardinal, sanctified, magik, a blessing, a bestowal, a gift, fortune, luck, serendipity, and fulfillment--all found in the stillness of being. seven is angelic, of heaven's music in light, colour, and sound. seven links, unites, and entirely transcends spatial form and temporal time. seven is spaceless and lives in forever-time. although 7 is sought, 7 seeks not. seven embraces all other numbers unconditionally--what was and what will be. seven receives 6 as 6 unfolds, and 7 kisses 8, which always returns to 7's love. seven is sanctified, destined, spiritual, 7 is universal love.

many animals can sense the earth's magnetic field, so why not people, asks oleg shumilov of the institute of north industrial ecology problems in russia.
shumilov looked at activity in the earth's geomagnetic field from 1948 to 1997 and found that it grouped into three seasonal peaks every year: one from march to may, another in july and the last in october.
surprisingly, he also found that the geomagnetism peaks matched up with peaks in the number of suicides in the northern russian city of kirovsk over the same period.
shumilov acknowledges that a correlation like this does not necessarily mean there is a causal link, but he points out that there have been several other studies suggesting a link between human health and geomagnetism.
for example, a 2006 review of research on cardiovascular health and disturbances in the geomagnetic field in the journal surveys in geophysics (doi: 10.1007/s10712-006-9010-7) concluded that a link was possible and that the effects seemed to be more pronounced at high latitudes.

james lovelock, who developed his ideas about life regulating the earth's environment in the 1960s
earth is a perfect planet for life but, according to gaia theory, this is no coincidence. from the moment life first appeared on earth it has worked hard to make earth a more comfortable place to live.
gaia theory suggests that the earth and its natural cycles can be thought of like a living organism. when one natural cycle starts to go out of kilter other cycles work to bring it back, continually optimising the conditions for life on earth.
named after the greek earth goddess, gaia, the theory was developed in the 1960s by scientist dr james lovelock. at the time, lovelock was working for nasa, looking at methods of detecting life on mars. the theory came about as a way of explaining why the earth's atmosphere contains high levels of nitrogen and oxygen.
initially, gaia theory was ignored, and then later ridiculed by scientists such as richard dawkins and stephen j gould. however, in recent times stronger evidence for the theory has emerged and gaia has started to gain support. the theory helps to explain some of the more unusual features of planet earth, such as why the atmosphere isn't mostly carbon dioxide, and why the oceans aren't more salty.

earth's cries recorded in space

earth emits an ear-piercing series of chirps and whistles that could be heard by any aliens who might be listening, astronomers have discovered.
the sound is awful, a new recording from space reveals.
scientists have known about the radiation since the 1970s. it is created high above the planet, where charged particles from the solar wind collide with earth's magnetic field. it is related to the phenomenon that generates the colorful aurora, or northern lights.
the radio waves are blocked by the ionosphere, a charged layer atop our atmosphere, so they do not reach earth. that's good, because the out-of-this-world radio waves are 10,000 times stronger than even the strongest military signal, the researchers said, and they would overwhelm all radio stations on the planet.
theorists had long figured the radio waves, which were not well studied, oozed into space in an ever-widening cone, like light from a torch.
but new data from the european space agency's cluster mission, a group of four high-flying satellites, reveals the bursts of radio waves head off to the cosmos in beam-like fashion, instead.
this means they're more detectable to anyone who might be listening.

sloshing inside earth changes protective magnetic field

something beneath the surface is changing earth's protective magnetic field, which may leave satellites and other space assets vulnerable to high-energy radiation.
the gradual weakening of the overall magnetic field can take hundreds and even thousands of years. but smaller, more rapid fluctuations within months may leave satellites unprotected and catch scientists off guard, new research finds.
a new model uses satellite data from the past nine years to show how sudden fluid motions within the earth's core can alter the magnetic envelope around our planet. this represents the first time that researchers have been able to detect such rapid magnetic field changes taking place over just a few months.
"there are these changes in the south atlantic, an area where the magnetic field has the smallest envelope at one third [of what is] normal," said mioara mandea, a geophysicist at the gfz german research center for geosciences in potsdam, germany.
even before the newly detected changes, the south atlantic anomaly represented a weak spot in the magnetic field — a dent in earth's protective bubble.

apparently when water crystals get suspended that high in the atmosphere, they pick up light from the sun, even when there is ambient light anywhere in the sky.
the reason they are showing up more has to do with the overall brightness of everything in the solar system increasing by almost 60% in the last few years.

it was the evolutionary theory of its age. a revolutionary hypothesis that undermined the cherished notion that we humans are somehow special, driving a deep wedge between science and religion. the philosopher giordano bruno was burned at the stake for espousing it; galileo galilei, the most brilliant scientist of his age, was silenced. but nicolaus copernicus's idea that earth was just one of many planets orbiting the sun - and so occupied no exceptional position in the cosmos - has endured and become a foundation stone of our understanding of the universe.
could it actually be wrong, though? at first glance, that question might seem heretical, or downright silly. but as our cosmic horizons have expanded over the centuries so too has the scope of copernicus's idea. it has morphed into the copernican, or cosmological, principle: that nothing distinguishes the position of earth's galaxy from any other place in the entire universe. and that idea, some cosmologists point out, has not been tested beyond all doubt - yet.
copernicus's principle has not been tested beyond doubt yet
that could be about to change. a new generation of experiments might shore up the cosmic orthodoxy - or blow it out of the water. that unexpected alternative, some people go so far as to say, might be no bad thing at all.

observations of the warm plasma cloak and an explanation of its formation in the magnetosphere
by david f. salisbury
published: december 12, 2008
earth's magnetosphere — the invisible bubble of magnetic fields and electrically charged particles that surrounds and protects the planet from the periodically lethal radiation of the solar wind — is divided into six parts.
new insights into the organization and dynamics of this complex structure, which includes a newly identified region called the warm plasma cloak, are described in a paper published last month in the space physics section of the journal of geophysical research. the underlying analysis was performed by a team of scientists headed by rick chappell, research professor of physics and director of the dyer observatory at vanderbilt university.
although the northern and southern polar lights — aurora borealis and aurora australis — are the only parts of the magnetosphere that are visible to the human eye, it is an integral part of earth's space environment.
"although it is invisible, the magnetosphere has an impact on our everyday lives,” chappell says. "for example, solar storms agitate the magnetosphere in ways that can induce power surges in the electrical grid trigger blackouts, interfere with radio transmissions and mess up gps signals. charged particles in the magnetosphere can also damage the electronics in satellites and affect the weather by impinging on the upper layers of the atmosphere. these are some practical reasons why it is important to understand the magnetosphere's structure and behavior.”

a giant breach in earth's magnetic field
12.16.2008
dec. 16, 2008: nasa's five themis spacecraft have discovered a breach in earth's magnetic field ten times larger than anything previously thought to exist. solar wind can flow in through the opening to "load up" the magnetosphere for powerful geomagnetic storms. but the breach itself is not the biggest surprise. researchers are even more amazed at the strange and unexpected way it forms, overturning long-held ideas of space physics.
"at first i didn't believe it," says themis project scientist david sibeck of the goddard space flight center. "this finding fundamentally alters our understanding of the solar wind-magnetosphere interaction."
the magnetosphere is a bubble of magnetism that surrounds earth and protects us from solar wind. exploring the bubble is a key goal of the themis mission, launched in february 2007. the big discovery came on june 3, 2007, when the five probes serendipitously flew through the breach just as it was opening. onboard sensors recorded a torrent of solar wind particles streaming into the magnetosphere, signaling an event of unexpected size and importance.

i was checking to see if you all had this article here. (lighteye post #40: a giant breach in earth's magnetic field) they have it linked up at project camelot too, but of course they take the disaster outlook, calling it the "canary in the coal mine".
thanks to david! because of your work, now we know these effects will ultimately and currently lead to higher vibrations and human evolution! thanks david, its exciting to see your work being validated as the story unfolds...
btw, nasa made this discovery a year and a half ago! now they come out with it and pretend they're so confused, they just don't know whats happening. bs! 18 months later they must be coming up with something. they totally play out the whole thing, only realeasing information a litlle at a time, but only when by doing so they still keep the upper hand. where's the sense of civic duty? down the crapper!
doesn't really mater though, huh, we know what's up! density rising!!!

magnetic field hole could cripple communications
friday, december 19, 2008
by andrea thompson
scientists have found two large leaks in earth's magnetosphere, the region around our planet that shields us from severe solar storms.
the leaks are defying many of scientists' previous ideas on how the interaction between earth's magnetosphere and solar wind occurs: the leaks are in an unexpected location, let in solar particles in faster than expected and the whole interaction works in a manner that is completely the opposite of what scientists had thought.
the findings have implications for how solar storms affect the our planet. serious storms, which involved charged particles spewing from the sun, can disable satellites and even disrupt power grids on earth.
the new observations "overturn the way that we understand how the sun's magnetic field interacts with the earth's magnetic field," said david sibeck of nasa's goddard space flight center in greenbelt, md., during a press conference today at the annual meeting of the american geophysical union in san francisco.
the bottom line: when the next peak of solar activity comes, in about 4 years, electrical systems on earth and satellites in space may be more vulnerable.

i am to understand that this breech is a naturally occurring cycle, but the magnitude of this opening is quite large, allowing solar winds, or solar plasma to enter.
am i to understand correctly that our inner-being is highly sensitive , and affected by solar plasma, causing an increase of the vibratory rate of our inner-beings?
if everyone on earth is affected by an increase of vibration, sort of an evolution of spirit....could this effect "assist" or lead some who are already on the ascension journey to greater consciousness, while others being brought to greater disturbance or fear?

tonight when i took my little dog heidi out for her evening walk, the grey-pink-brown sky was filled with the smell of smoke and the sun was a fuzzy burnt orange ball glowing through the murk.
texas and oklahoma are experiencing some of the worst wildfires in history. there are nine counties surrounding the dallas-fortworth counties which have massive fires which are still not under control. there is simply not enough equipment and people to fight the fires which are raging.
i have set in amazement for the last month to six week as we have had dry winds exceeding 35 miles per hour and a dirth of rain. the landscape is tinder dry and the smallest spark will set of a fire which will spread with tremendous speed.
thanks to our creator we are expecting widespread rain saturday evening and sunday. meanwhile there are hundreds of square miles of grassland and woodlands which are being burned.
that being said, as i watch the news reports of this devistation, i realize that gaia is cleansing herself and that this, along with the earthquakes in italy, the volcanic activity in alaska, the shedding of ice shelves in anartica and other unreported natural "catastrophes" are all part of the shift which is occuring for the upward evolution of earth and humankind. as i observe the action, i find myself reminding myself that this is as it should be, and that it is no reason for fear, but rather find myself in a state of anticipation of the results. i dare not share these thoughts with those around me. i would be considered deranged and candidate for the lunybin.
i have observed in the recent month the extraordinary winds and the extreme shifts in temperatures, questioning what is going on, but as i seek within myself i realize that this is all part of our approach to the finish of this cycle and the beginning of the next. i am fixated on weather and that is ok. but i am also very aware that these extraordinary changes are not limited to the weather but also to society, govenment and international relationships. we have been told by ra and others that there would be a cleansing/clearing and revealing of the negative pall which has surrounded our civilization for a very long time. so, as my heart sends forth compassion for those who have had great and grievous losses, it still swells with excitement as i see the changes occuring. i steel myself to face with faith and intention the time when and if i am personally faced with such losses and difficulties.

the sudden energy release creates a pair of counter-spiralling vortices, which themis detected by measuring the speed and direction of the solar wind in the magnetotail. each one is 70,000 kilometres long and wide enough to envelop the earth (see illustration).
one vortex in the pair sends particles spiralling along earth's magnetic field lines until they hit molecules of the ionosphere 400 km above the surface. the energy released by the collisions creates the auroral glow, like the gas in a neon light...

multipolar dance could flip earth’s magnetic field
researchers in france have developed a new model of earth’s magnetic field that includes a simple explanation for why it has flipped direction many times throughout earth history.
most geophysicists agree that the main component of earth’s magnetic field is generated by convection currents in the molten iron of the planet’s core. this dipole field — which defines the earth’s magnetic poles — has reversed polarity tens of thousand of times in the past. we know this because ancient field configurations are “frozen” into the rocks, as magnetic particles align with field lines.
various theories have been put forward to explain the reversal mechanism but they are usually highly complex, where random variations in the flow of the liquid core are the main triggers.

increasing diversity
the diversity of the universe has been increasing since the beginning of time. in its very first seconds the universe contained only quarks, which began to assemble into a variety of sub-atomic particles within minutes. by the end of the first hour, the universe contained dozens of types of particles but only two elements, hydrogen and helium. over the next 300 million years drifting hydrogen and helium atoms found each other and their micro-gravities bound them together into masses of growing nebula that eventually collapsed into fiery stars. star fusion built up the hydrogen and helium with additional particles until they emerged as dozens of new heavier elements, and so the diversity of the chemical universe increased. eventually some "metallic" stars exploded into supernova spewing their heavy elements into space, to be swept up again over millions of years into new stars. in a kind of pumping action, these second and third round star-furnaces added yet more neutrons to metallic elements to create more varieties of heavy metals until all 100 or so varieties of stable elements were created. the increasing diversity of elements and particles also created an increasing variety of star species, galaxies types, and varieties of orbiting planets. on planets with active tectonic crusts new kinds of minerals increased in time, as geologic forces reworked and rearranged the elements into new crystals and rocks. the diversity of crystallized minerals on earth, for instance, increased even further with advent of life.

earth losing atmosphere faster than venus, mars
irene klotz, discovery news
june 2, 2009
researchers were stunned to discover recently that earth is losing more of its atmosphere than venus and mars, which have negligible magnetic fields.
this may mean our planet's magnetic shield may not be as solid a protective screen as once believed when it comes to guarding the atmosphere from an assault from the sun.
"we often tell ourselves that we are very fortunate living on this planet because we have this strong magnetic shield that protects us from all sorts of things that the cosmos throws at us -- cosmic rays, solar flares and the pesky solar wind," said christopher russell, a professor of geophysics and space physics at the university of california, los angeles.

earth’s magnetic field perturbed by 'electric oceans', claims researcher
in a radical rethink of accepted geophysics, new research in the us links variations in the earth’s magnetic field with the ebb and flow of the world’s oceans. given the practical importance of these field variations in navigation and atmospheric modeling, the implications of this new research extend far beyond academia. however, the idea has already faced strong criticism from some researchers in the geophysics community.
i consider this paper extremely important, although i expect violent opposition from the experts
alex kostinski, michigan technological universitythe origin and mechanism of the earth’s magnetic field are amongst the biggest unsolved questions in the earth sciences. most geophysicists agree however that the main component of the field — which defines the magnetic poles — is a dipole generated by the convection of molten iron deep within the earth’s interior. we know, from studying the way magnetic minerals align in volcanic rocks, that this dipole has flipped its orientation every million years or so throughout earth history.
hi there.
i am kind of new here, although i've been lurking for some months.
i was not sure where to post this, but since i intend it to be discussed, i post it here! :p
i've been following closely dc for about some 10 months now, and reading and listening to the material provided here, as well as other related material and law of one alike stuff, my view of what people call reality changed dramatically. (well, dw's material does do that in of itself :p)
anyway the main subject of this thread:
a while ago, i was hearing a radio show with graham hancock (2003) talking about the ruins underwater near cuba and about how most if not all ancient cultures share myths about a huge flood and changes in the water levels, along with some hints about an ice age maybe some 10,000 years ago.
all of a sudden i remembered some information that richard c. hoagland provided in a conference or radio show about how a physical pole shift could occur (he made a comparision with atoms and electrons shifting rotations) and it popped up into my head:
"there was no ice age, what there was, was a pole shift. there were regions under ice because those where the rotational poles of the earth at that time".
i looked at the time and it was 12:44, so i read that as synchronicity (i had no clue of what time it was) and immediatly i thought of writing it here!!!!
i did perform a quick search but i could not find immediatly find any threads about pole-shifts and ice-ages...
anyway, later on with the hancock show, i thought to myself "hmm that kind of shift would change water levels? not sure, but some massive earth changes would have to happen in very little time, such as large landmasses changing place, earth crust disruption causing huge volcanic activity, and that in turn would cause massive tsumanis to race across the earth surface and possibly causing huge floods".
immediatly after that, i hear hancock saying something like "i believe there were huge earth changes occuring for some reason, large terrain portions, country or continent-sized being altered, entire populations of fauna and flora being devastated... and all of this might have happened over night"... <-- as if it was a confirmation of my previous thoughts.
my main question is:
what articles or research is there about this hypothesis?
that what we call ice ages were in fact consequences of physical pole shifts?
pole shifts caused by the natural re-orientation of the planet's rotational axis to properly cope with the hyperdimensional energy that is being passed onto it, as hoagland presents?
is this hypothesys even logic?
thank you, and knowlegde and peace to you all (in other words: light and love!)

scientists have found an unusual way to prevent our planet overheating: move it to a cooler spot.
all you have to do is hurtle a few comets at earth, and its orbit will be altered. our world will then be sent spinning into a safer, colder part of the solar system.
this startling idea of improving our interplanetary neighbourhood is the brainchild of a group of nasa engineers and american astronomers who say their plan could add another six billion years to the useful lifetime of our planet – effectively doubling its working life.

large earthquakes trigger global activity
u.s. seismologists have found evidence that the massive 2004 earthquake that triggered killer tsunamis throughout the indian ocean weakened at least a portion of california's famed san andreas fault. the results, which appeared in the journal nature, suggest that the earth's largest earthquakes can weaken fault zones worldwide and may trigger periods of increased global seismic activity.
"an unusually high number of magnitude 8 earthquakes occurred worldwide in 2005 and 2006," said study co-author fenglin niu, associate professor of earth science at rice university. "there has been speculation that these were somehow triggered by the sumatran-andaman earthquake that occurred on dec. 26, 2004, but this is the first direct evidence that the quake could change fault strength of a fault remotely."
earthquakes are caused when a fault fails, either because of the buildup of stress or because of the weakening of the fault. the latter is more difficult to measure. ..

phantom storms: how our weather leaks into space
06 october 2009 by jon cartwright
whether it's showering spacecraft with lethal radiation, filling the sky with ghostly light, or causing electrical surges that black-out entire cities, space weather is a force to be reckoned with.
thankfully, all is calm in space on the day that i speak to bill murtagh at the us national oceanic and atmospheric administration in boulder, colorado. "last week we saw a moderate storm, and that was about the most interesting event in months," he reassures me. "it's pretty quiet today."
and murtagh should know - his job is to forecast space weather, which comprises any disturbance in near-earth space, including the upper reaches of the earth's atmosphere where satellites roam. many of the serious events involve disturbances in the charged portion of the atmosphere, known as the ionosphere, which stretches from 80 to 1000 kilometres above sea level. the finger of blame has always been pointed at the sun, which bombards the earth with a stream of charged particles in the form of the solar wind. during the last three years, though, the sun's cycle of activity has hit a trough, and as murtagh observes, space weather is temporarily calm.
yet if the sun really is the only cause, things haven't been quite as quiet as we might have expected. despite the solar lull, activity in the ionosphere still hots up occasionally - with ghostly tides of charged particles that throw gps systems out of whack and block radio communication. it seems that as much as one-fifth of this space weather cannot be blamed on the sun after all. if the cause of these charged-particle surges is not above the atmosphere, it must be somewhere below. but where?

earth's north magnetic pole racing towards russia due to core flux
washington, december 25 : a new research has determined that earth's north magnetic pole is racing toward russia at almost 40 miles (64 kilometers) a year due to magnetic changes in the planet's core.
the core is too deep for scientists to directly detect its magnetic field. but researchers can infer the field's movements by tracking how earth's magnetic field has been changing at the surface and in space.
now, according to a report in national geographic news, newly analyzed data suggest that there's a region of rapidly changing magnetism on the core's surface, possibly being created by a mysterious 'plume' of magnetism arising from deeper in the core.

the earth's magnetic field protects our planet from most of the permanent flow of particles from the solar wind. fissures in this magnetic shield are known to occur, enabling the solar wind to penetrate our near-space environment. a study based on data collected by the four esa cluster satellites and the cnsa/esa double star tc-1 spacecraft, provides new insight into the location and duration of these ruptures in the earth's magnetic shield.
this study reports the observation of fissures on the sun-facing side of the earth's magnetic shield - the dayside magnetopause. fortunately, these fissures don't expose earth's surface to the solar wind; our atmosphere protects us, even when our magnetic field doesn't. however, clear effects have been detected high in the upper atmosphere and in the region of space around earth where satellites orbit.

the massive 8.8 earthquake that struck chile may have changed the entire earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet, a nasa scientist said monday.
the quake, the seventh strongest earthquake in recorded history, hit chile saturday and should have shortened the length of an earth day by 1.26 milliseconds, according to research scientist richard gross at nasa's jet propulsion laboratory in pasadena, calif.
"perhaps more impressive is how much the quake shifted earth's axis," nasa officials said in a monday update.
the computer model used by gross and his colleagues to determine the effects of the chile earthquake effect also found that it should have moved earth's figure axis by about 3 inches (8 cm or 27 milliarcseconds).
the earth's figure axis is not the same as its north-south axis, which it spins around once every day at a speed of about 1,000 mph (1,604 kph).
the figure axis is the axis around which the earth's mass is balanced. it is offset from the earth's north-south axis by about 33 feet (10 meters).
strong earthquakes have altered earth's days and its axis in the past. the 9.1 sumatran earthquake in 2004, which set off a deadly tsunami, should have shortened earth's days by 6.8 microseconds and shifted its axis by about 2.76 inches (7 cm, or 2.32 milliarcseconds).
one earth day is about 24 hours long. over the course of a year, the length of a day normally changes gradually by one millisecond. it increases in the winter, when the earth rotates more slowly, and decreases in the summer, gross has said in the past.
the chile earthquake was much smaller than the sumatran temblor, but its effects on the earth are larger because of its location. its epicenter was located in the earth's mid-latitudes rather than near the equator like the sumatran event.
the fault responsible for the 2010 chile quake also slices through earth at a steeper angle than the sumatran quake's fault, nasa scientists said.
"this makes the chile fault more effective in moving earth's mass vertically and hence more effective in shifting earth's figure axis," nasa officials said.

the earth has its own set of rules
our view of nature is based on our human desire for more, and that economic model is broken.
by b.e. mahall and f.h. bormann
march 2, 2010
early in our history it didn't make any difference how we viewed our environment. we could change it, and if we didn't like what we did to it, we could move and natural processes would soon obliterate whatever we had done. over the years, models of our relationship to the environment have been based on religious views, with the world provided for us to dominate and subdue as described in genesis, and philosophical views, seeing wisdom and virtue in nature as described by thoreau.
but by far our most prevalent view of nature derives from a rudimentary human desire for more. this is the basis of the economic model that currently directs our relationships with one another and with our environment. it has produced stupendous human population growth and dramatic, deleterious effects on nature. recognizing these effects, efforts have been marshaled to change the self-serving economic model with notions of earth "stewardship," eloquently advanced decades ago by then-interior secretary stewart udall, and, most recently, to infiltrate the economic model with "ecosystem services" by assigning monetary values to functions performed by the earth that are beneficial to people.
all of these views are fundamentally and dangerously flawed, because all are anthropocentric. they begin and end with humans. this isn't the way the earth works.
the earth has its own set of rules, solidly grounded in laws of physics and chemistry and emergent principles of geology and biology. unlike our economic model, these are not artificial constructs. they are real, and they govern. earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, tornadoes, 100-year floods, massive wildfires and disease epidemics are dramatic examples of parts of nature, neither all service nor all harm, creating and destroying, and governed by rules that are indifferent to humans. our anthropocentric economic model for interacting with the world ignores and is proving to be incompatible with earth's rules, and is therefore on a direct collision course with them.

with 2012 fast approaching, there has been a lot of speculation about the poles changing place or moving. while the possibility of a polar shift is quite possible, and appears to have happened in the past, another possibility needs to be considered.
there is strong evidence that the surface of our planet -- the thin skin called the "crust" -- has suddenly shifted in the past. while the earth remained in its normal axis, this shift caused entire continents and oceans to move, changing climates and altering entire ecosystems and weather patterns.
we present the following information as proof of these past shifts and suggest that a similar event may be in store for earth's immediate future.

geomagnetic storm: a sharp gust of solar wind hit earth's magnetosphere today, april 5th, at approximately 0800 ut. the impact sparked a strong geomagnetic storm (kindex=7). high-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

the crystals at the center of the earth
by alexis madrigal may 11, 2010 | 12:55 pm
seismic waves traveling between earth’s poles move faster than those moving east-west, and now scientists think they may know why.
the iron alloys in the solid inner core of the earth appear to have crystallized in such a way that it’s easier for energy to pass on the north-south axis than on the east-west, as described in a new study led by maurizio mattesini, a geologist at the universidad complutense de madrid, which appeared in the journal proceedings of the national academy of sciences.
“the structure of the atoms looks different in one direction than the other,” explained norm sleep, a stanford geologist who was not part of the new study,
in the textbooks of yore, the earth’s inner regions like the mantle and core were presented as simple, fairly homogeneous regions. but the geology of the core is turning out to be much more complex as scientists make use of more and better seismographs to generate better data about how seismic waves travel through the planet.
the outer core is composed mostly of liquid iron. the inner core is solid ball about 750 miles in diameter, or a little less than the maximum width of the state of texas, which formed as the earth cooled over geologic time, said david stephenson, a geologist at caltech.
“the center of the earth is literally a crystal,” said stephenson. over time, it grew and now is no longer a single crystal but an aggregate of them.

amazing striped icebergs
icebergs in the antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by
layers of snow that react to different conditions
blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet
fills up with melt water and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form
when an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can
freeze to the underside. if this is rich in algae, it can form a
green stripe
brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up
when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea

i've been seeing a lot of blogs and messages about people noticing that the sun is not where it should be for this time of year relative to where it is rising and setting. i have not seen any comments here about that.
i also have noticed that the sun is setting at about where it normally would set at the summer solstice, way north of mid may position. i am waiting with curiosity to see where it will actually set on june 21. at this rate it will be due northwest here in dallas texas. it is west-northwest now.
i haven't been able to find any data regarding the normal degree where it would be setting each day. does anyone know of a reference for that information?

very interesting you should mention this. i don't see it setting because of too many trees.
but, rising - i thought i was going crackers when i noticed this past month the sun no longer comes in the radial bow window in the same position as it has for years. unfortunately, this still didn't click in my head even though this change has caused me to wake up later in the morning than usual.
a while later i noticed it no longer comes up over the open water as it always has and now shifted to a north east position. very strange.
i'm going to take some readings and keep a log.
another thing i noticed - no one has "purple martins" in their bird houses this year. the scout usually arrives around march 15 -18 and everyone i've talk to also have no birds. of course, it has been so cool and downright cold at times so far, therefore, no mosquitoes for them to eat. today was first warm day. this is not normal for this time of year. i noticed on this report they are starting to show up in spotty locations. the birds are almost 3 months late for my area - if they put in a appearance at all. this just a "scout" report - no mention if families arrived.
http://www.purplemartin.org/scoutreport/
today, i noticed the chem-trails are back in every direction of the compass.
another interesting point - i was at a wine/cheese gathering this evening with 11 people and several also mentioned the "yellow finches" we all enjoyed during winter/early spring never appeared. i kept dumping the "niger seed", and just assumed i purchased a bad batch until others mentioned the same experience feeding birds. the gathering consisted of people living within a 50 mile radius
thank you for your post. it's got me thinking - "what's going on"?

earth's insides may move at a creep, but diamonds ride the fast track. diamond-infused magma may zoom upwards from deep within the planet at a blistering 60 kilometres per hour.
rising magma in earth's mantle is thought to ascend at just a few centimetres per year. it was known that kimberlite, which often contains diamonds, can rise more quickly near the surface, but its speed at great depths was unclear.

fact or fiction: the days (and nights) are getting longer
fossilized corals, lasers beamed at a receding moon, chinese artifacts, and other evidence have revealed that over the ages the length of time it takes earth to spin once on its axis has increased significantly
by adam hadhazy
the summer solstice that falls this year on june 21 marks the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, sunlight-wise. almost imperceptibly, however, earth's day–night cycle—one rotation on its axis—is growing longer year by year, and has been for most of the planet's history.
forces from afar conspire to put the brakes on our spinning world—ocean tides generated by both the moon and sun's gravity add 1.7 milliseconds to the length of a day each century, although that figure changes on geologic timescales. the moon is slowly spiraling away from earth as it drives day-stretching tides, a phenomenon recorded in rocks and fossils that provides clues to the satellite's origin and ultimate fate. "you're putting energy into the moon's orbit and taking it out of the earth's spin," says james williams, a senior research scientist at nasa's jet propulsion laboratory in pasadena, calif.
the moon's gravity generates tides by pulling hardest on the side of earth facing it. this attraction causes the planet to bulge, especially in its malleable oceans. (the sun affects tides in the same way, although in comparison due to its great distance they amount to only about a fifth of the lunar influence on our planetary pirouette.) earth rotates faster than the moon orbits it, so the watery tidal bulge travels ahead of the moon's relative position. this displaced mass gravitationally tugs the moon forward, imparting energy and giving the satellite an orbital boost, whereas friction along the seafloor curbs earth's rotation.
williams has studied how fast the moon is corkscrewing away by shining lasers from earth at prism-shaped reflectors placed on the lunar surface in the late 1960s and early 1970s by u.s. astronauts and unmanned russian probes. changes in the beam's round-trip time reveal the moon's recession rate—3.8 centimeters per year—which, largely due to the orientation of earth's landmasses and its effect on oceanic sloshing, is faster now than in previous epochs, williams says.

david my friend,
i realize that you are only the messenger, so i won't shoot you! lol but this researcher is obviously out of touch with day to day living. i and every one i know are experiencing the acceleration of time, not the slowing of time, unless it is waiting in the dentist's office for a root canal!
i must try to relate to the ra material in regards to the space/time vs time/space relationship when thinking about this enigma. just because certain scientist are measuring a slowing of earth spin and an outward spiral of the moons orbit doesn't necessarily mean that we perceive time as slowing down. perception is the key word. the vibrational effect of change which is going on subtley (and often not so subtlely) to earth/the solar system is not necessarily connected to what the rotation/revolution of the earth-moon relationship is doing. i believe that those two events are separated by the difference between the 3rd and 4th density vibrational conditions.
perhaps those who are experiencing that slowing mentioned above are those who are still very deeply rooted in the 3rd density.
i for one am astonished by the rapid movement through the weeks and months as we continue to move through the next few years. it seems that we just celebrated christmas and new years and here it is already summer solstice. where pray tell did the time go?

as it is the 3d physical realm which is expected to be vacated shortly, and since people can still measure the effects of physical forces which have to be balanced throughout the solar system in order for the system to have persisted this long, this is perhaps an issue of inner subjective experience following the lead toward a realm in which that which manifests more closely manifests from subjective experience. ;) or, in other words, we may be experiencing some aspects of a 'trial separation' between the timetable of this world and what appears to us now to be timelessness in the bigger life. mark

david's link and the scientists are correct. because time is slowing, but human consciousness is not, it will appear to the human that time is speeding up.
think of your perception when you are sitting at a red light on a hill and the car beside you rolls forward slowly. you might have the perception of moving backwards and press the brake harder to compensate.
in this case, it is as two vehicles moving the same speed, then one slowing down (time). to the one in front (the human), it may appear that it is speeding up, when in fact it has simply remained constant.
everything in the illusion is perception in regards to consciousness.

time/space is the foremost thought in my mind lately. i've got a lot to say on that, but i'll hold back.
time is a measurement of a series of revolutions and rotations (i know you know this). there is noway to prove i actually existed yesterday. does time exist?
my question to you regarding the above posts is: can you describe how consciousness moves in time?
i can jog through space and end at a different place in time, but only because the rotation/revolution of earth/milky way/whatever moved to a different space as well which equals time. but even the starting line moved in space and will never enter the same space or time again.
in space/time, time doesn't change. rather, spaces change over time.
in time/space, space doesn't change. rather, times change over space.

the ultimate woowoo
part 1: introduction
one concept, and potential bombshell of a game changer, has always stood out. it did so by stealth. hollow earth just pretended to be another loony idea that, you know, some people just seem to get a kick out of. only after looking at it in detail and absorbing the available information did i realize how much it actually means. would mean. apparently, does mean. and it can only be true or false. there is no middle ground, only hollow ground or solid ground.
the range of the implications of the earth being hollow are important. hugely, massively (pun) important. they go as far as explaining dozens of anomalies that surround us. all freaking kinds of parallel, alternative, weird and conspiratorial ideas. in a word: woowoo ideas. ideas which are becoming mainstream, and not that it matters what a majority of any kind thinks or what opinions it holds. the masses are dark (doesn't) matter in the larger scheme of things.
this first part about the ultimate woowoo intends to synthesize as much as possible what one has to look at and know about to get a basic idea. there is also an emphasis on visual evidence in this introduction to the hollow earth.

extreme weather a function of cosmic dielectrics?
paul noel asserts that severe storms "are an electromagnetic effects of the plasma fields surrounding the solar system. these are what make sun spots as well. the driver is electrical. the mechanism is primarily capacitant and is based on dielectric." this is why opposite extremes appear at the same time on the planet.
preface by sterling d. allan
pure energy systems news
back in 2005, we published a series of three articles by paul noel in which he described tornadoes and hurricanes from a cosmic energy vantage point.
he said: "energetically speaking, the vortex that forms in these storms is also a natural particle accelerator, and a massive capacitor bank. as the harmonic circuit develops, it resonates acoustically and functions as a capacitor, extracting the heat from the storm and transmitting it away. without this electrical circuit, the storm would fail almost instantly due to the accumulation of heat from condensation of water."
the "wilma the capacitor" story was picked up by slashdot, where paul received a severe drubbing, being treated as an scientific imbecile. however, paul was vindicated (though no credited) nearly five years later by an article that appeared on april 14, 2010 in science daily: giant natural particle accelerator above thunderclouds.

our planet is a place rich in sound. this panoply of sound is so important to our perception of our world that when the voyager spacecraft were launched as our ambassadors to the universe, a collection of sounds from earth were part of what they took with them. along with images and other information about earth and humankind, there were recordings (on very old-fashioned analog disks) of the sounds of natural phenomena such as wind, surf, and thunder. there were also animal sounds, music from many cultures, and spoken greetings in several dozen languages, including a clip from then-president jimmy carter.
the sounds on that disk are the sounds most of us know -- the sound of storms, oceans, animals, people speaking, singing, and playing music. but nowhere on that disk are the kinds of sounds an alien race might first hear when approaching earth -- the sounds of the earth itself. some are simple pops and crackles, but some are so rich or so eerie they seem to defy their natural origin.

the earth has two north poles, the geographic and the magnetic. the magnetic pole is the one that attracts the needles of our compasses. it’s always moving, but could it be about to flip? what will be the impact? paleomagnetism has taught us that the magnetic pole flips regularly, going from north to south and vice versa, once every 250,000 years on average. however, the last inversion occurred 780,000 years ago! are we on the eve of such a major event?
when north goes south follows canadian geophysicist larry newitt and french geologist jean-jacques orgeval as they meet astronauts, marine biologists, paleo and archeomagneticians, in an attempt to understand, measure and explain the consequences of a pole inversion.
when north goes south is directed and produced by yanick rose and stéphane nicolopoulos for tga production and idéacom international. f.m. morrison is senior producer for the nature of things."

if your enquiring mind happens to appreciate the implications of what you see in the presentation offered in the previous link, please endeavor to read these works. really, how do millions of cubic miles of mass get inside a planet from without?
as in galileo's day with regard to the issue of the earth not being at the center of the universe, certain principalities of power don't want you to know.
but you can know. the answer is linked to proof that the entire universe is one living unified field of consciousness, with you playing an indispensible part that the universe cannot do without.

down to the seafloor in submersibles
in june of 1974, the famous fleet met in the azores. archimède was towed by the french ship marcel le bihan. cyana was on the deck of le noirot. alvin (named after its early champion, whoi scientist allyn vine) was aboard its mother ship r/v lulu (named after vine’s mother). woods hole’s r/v knorr towed r/v lulu.in position to drill a core of the seafloor was d/v glomar challenger, a converted oil drilling ship recently commissioned by the national science foundation for the deep sea drilling project.
for the first time in history, scientists descended to the bottom of the sea to explore a mid-ocean ridge. they descended between the steep, 5,000-foot ridge flanks into a rift valley as deep as the grand canyon. they saw for the first time the narrow zone where magma oozed through seafloor cracks, paving the seafloor and creating new crust—and by this process, spreading the north american and european tectonic plates apart.

from the university of delaware "extreme 2008 - a deep sea adventure"
"the earth's tectonic plates can move apart, collide, or slide past each other. the mid-ocean ridge system — the earth's underwater mountain range — marks where the plates are moving apart. as the plates part, the seafloor cracks. cold seawater seeps deep down into these cracks, becomes super-heated by magma, and then gushes back out into the ocean, forming hydrothermal vents.
as the plates move farther apart, magma from the earth's interior percolates up to fill the gap, sometimes causing earthquakes and the eruption of undersea volcanoes. this process, called seafloor spreading, is how new seafloor is formed.
the earth's size is constant, so as the crust expands through seafloor spreading in one area, crust must be swallowed up elsewhere. crust is destroyed when the edge of one tectonic plate is forced underneath another. this dynamic process is called subduction. it results in earthquakes, volcanoes, and the formation of deep ocean trenches."

interesting thoughts...
http://www.viewzone.com/hollowearth.html
this first part about the ultimate woowoo intends to synthesize as much as possible what one has to look at and know about to get a basic idea. there is also an emphasis on visual evidence in this introduction to the hollow earth.
fantastic!

mysterious noctilucent clouds as seen from space
by nancy atkinson on february 9, 2011
polar mesospheric clouds (pmcs) observed by the ozone monitoring instrument (omi) on the aura satellite. maps by robert simmon. credit: nas
mysterious “night shining” or noctilucent clouds are beautiful to behold, and are usually seen during the summertime, appearing at sunset. they are thin, wavy ice clouds that form at very high altitudes and reflect sunlight long after the sun has dropped below the horizon. scientists don’t know exactly why they form, but continue to observe them – both from earth and from space. these images were taken by the ozone monitoring instrument (omi) on nasa’s aura satellite.
also called polar mesospheric clouds, they are puzzling scientists with their recent dramatic changes. they used to be considered rare, but now the clouds are growing brighter, are seen more frequently, are visible at lower and lower latitudes than ever before, and — as these satellite image reveal — they are now even appearing during the day.

the planetary gravitational power, derived from the pushing gravity in the frame of the micro-quanta paradigm, opens new insights on the physics of solar planets. it has been observed in the past that the infrared internal emission from the giant solar planets is much higher (7-10 times) than the emission of bodies cooling in space. this agrees with the predicted gravitational power, which in the case of the earth results about 60 times the classical heat flow estimated through the temperature gradient within the continents. this bias points out once again the problem of the high terrestrial seismic activity that can hardly be attributed to the thermal stresses produced by the classical heat flow crossing the crust. the new gravitational power is able to explain both the seismic activity and the oscillations of the surface temperature, such as the rapid warming named dansgaard-oeschger events, which are recorded from 11.500 yr up to 45.000 yr b.p. in the ice-cores obtained by drilling in greenland and antarctica. in the long term these temperature oscillations combine with the earth’s radiation cooling to originate the glacial eras lasting about 100,000 years.

'heartbeat' of earth's atmosphere detected from space

waves created by lightning flashes – here shown in blue, green, and red – circle around earth, creating something called schumann resonance. these waves can be used to study the nature of the atmosphere they travel through.

lightning flashes in the skies above the earth about 50 times every second, creating a burst of electromagnetic waves that circle around the planet's atmosphere.
some of these waves combine and increase in strength, creating something akin to an atmospheric heartbeat that scientists can detect from the ground and use to better understand the makeup of the atmosphere and the weather it generates.
for the first time, scientists have detected this heartbeat — called the schumann resonance — from space. this detection was surprising because the resonance was thought to be confined to a particular region of the atmosphere, between the ground and a layer of earth's atmosphere called the ionosphere.
"researchers didn't expect to observe these resonances in space," said fernando simoes, a scientist at nasa's goddard space flight center in greenbelt, md. "but it turns out that energy is leaking out and this opens up many other possibilities to study our planet from above." [video: leaky lightning waves]
